Patron Anejo has a warm amber colour and is aged in oak for over one year to produce an excellent tequila perfect for sipping. At the Hacienda Patron distillery in Jalisco, Mexico, it is distilled and then aged in a combination of American whiskey barrels, French oak, and Hungarian oak. It is 100% made from the core of the blue agave plant to make the perfect Patron Anejo tequila.
The Patron brand uses the agave plant for its tequila and Agave ripens about every eight years. Those with optimal sugar content are carefully sought and uprooted and a tool called a Coa is used to strip away the leaves to reveal the piña which is the heart of the agave plant. They are then baked, cooked evenly, and crushed by a volcanic stone Tahona wheel (which weighs two tons) and a roller mill.
